beachboys Kenny Wormald and Jake Abel have joined the cast of indie drama “Love and Mercy”, according to The Wrap. The biopic follows legendary Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson. Paul Dano will play Wilson as a young man, while John Cusack will portray him in later years. Wormald will play Beach Boys member and Brian’s younger brother Dennis Wilson, while Abel will play their cousin and the group’s lyricist Mike Love. Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Banks co-star.

The movie, written by Oren Moverman and to be directed by Bill Pohlad, will span decades and follow “the mercurial singer, songwriter and leader of The Beach Boys. Rather than a bio pic, the film will take an unconventional look at seminal moments in Wilson’s life, his artistic genius, his profound struggles, and the love that kept him alive.” The film also has the blessing of Wilson himself. “I am thrilled that Paul Dano has signed on to play me during one of my most creative explosions and most fulfilling musical times in my career,” he says in the press release. Oscar-winning composer Atticus Ross will create the “soundscape” for the film, which will undoubtedly feature some of the band’s most iconic songs.

Wormald broke out as the star of 2011′s “Footloose” remake opposite Julianne Hough and Miles Teller, and has wrapped a slew of indies, including “God Only Knows” with Leighton Meester and Ben Barnes, “Cavemen” with Skylar Astin and Alexis Knapp and “Kid Cannabis” with Jonathan Daniel Brown. Abel played Ian O’Shea opposite Saoirse Ronan in Andrew Niccol’s adaptation of Stephenie Meyer novel “The Host” and will soon be seen reprising his role as Luke in “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.”
